Fastest path to a key
- Gemini API (fastest): sign in to aistudio.google.com with any Google account and accept the ToS. A default Cloud project + API key are auto-created for new users
- Copy the key from aistudio.google.com/apikey. Since 2026-05-28 new keys are 'authorization keys' bound to a service account
- Call generativelanguage.googleapis.com with x-goog-api-key. The free tier needs no card
