Fastest path to a key
- Run `npx @datadog/ai-setup-cli --site datadoghq.com`: it opens the browser for account creation or OAuth (docs: 'for account creation if you don't have an account yet'). Alternative: the web trial form
- Phone OTPTrial form: business email, choose a region/site (irreversible), password, name, job title, company; phone is optional; no card; 14-day trial
- Grant OAuth consent, after which the CLI or MCP holds a scoped token
- For static creds: Organization Settings > API Keys and Application Keys (or PAT/SAT); `pup auth login` does OAuth2+PKCE in the browser
- Working API key
Biggest gap
Region/site fragmentation: every URL depends on the site, and the .md docs render placeholders instead of real endpoints. Personal emails are blocked.
Worth copying
The headless setup CLI falls back cleanly: browser OAuth when interactive, DD_API_KEY/DD_APP_KEY env vars when unattended. MCP toolsets can be selected by query param.

Biggest gains
- +12 Remote MCP server for the product. Host a remote MCP server (e.g. mcp.<domain>/mcp, Streamable HTTP) for your core actions.
- +8 Machine-readable API spec. Publish an OpenAPI spec at a stable URL like /openapi.json and link it from llms.txt.
- +6 Agents can self-register OAuth clients. Support dynamic client registration (RFC 7591) or client ID metadata documents so MCP clients connect in one click.
